About moxa

Moxibustion involves the burning of the herb Artmesia Vulgaris, commonly known as Moxa, on acupuncture points around the body. When lit, moxa burns slowly providing warmth which positively influences Qi and blood.
Moxa is a deeply nourishing treatment which strengthens your acupuncture treatment.
In some instances it is used in lieu of needling.
People find being treated with moxa a deeply relaxing experience.

Moxibustion in Sutton Coldfield FAQs

If you are considering moxibustion in Sutton Coldfield, these frequently asked questions explain what moxa treatment involves, what it feels like and how it may be incorporated into your personalised treatment at Sutton Acupuncture.

Moxibustion, sometimes shortened to moxa, is a traditional Chinese medicine technique involving the controlled burning of dried mugwort, known as moxa, close to specific areas of the body. The aim is to gently warm particular acupuncture points or areas without burning the skin.

For further independent information about moxibustion and other traditional Chinese medicine practices, visit the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

Within traditional Chinese medicine, moxibustion is used to introduce warmth to specific acupuncture points and areas of the body. It may be selected as part of an individual treatment plan depending on your symptoms and the practitioner’s assessment.

Scientific evidence for moxibustion varies according to the condition being studied, so it should be considered a complementary therapy rather than a replacement for appropriate medical treatment.

Moxa treatment generally produces a gentle and gradually increasing sensation of warmth around the area being treated. The moxa is carefully controlled and positioned so that the heat remains comfortable rather than burning the skin.

If you receive moxibustion in Sutton Coldfield at Sutton Acupuncture, the treatment will be adapted to your individual needs and comfort throughout your appointment.

No. Moxibustion and acupuncture are separate techniques, although they both have their origins in traditional Chinese medicine and may be used together as part of the same treatment.

Acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles at carefully selected points, whereas moxibustion uses heat generated from burning moxa. You can find out more about acupuncture in Sutton Coldfield and what treatment involves.

Yes. Moxibustion may be incorporated alongside acupuncture or other complementary techniques where appropriate. The combination used will depend on your individual circumstances rather than following an identical treatment protocol for every patient.

Your consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your symptoms, general health and treatment goals before an appropriate approach is recommended.

If you are interested in moxibustion in Sutton Coldfield, contact Sutton Acupuncture to discuss whether moxa treatment could be appropriate for you.

I went to try accupuncture with Ruth after I had a severe, unexplainable illness which the gps couldn't explain and I lost my strength and cognitive abilities. She's been absolutely amazing.. after the first session i slept like a baby and regained my strength....9 sessions later I've almost completely recovered, am back at the gym and my anxiety has almost disappeared...will be going back for top up treatments!

Treatment was hugely beneficial and significantly contributed to the improvement in my overall wellbeing. Ruth was also able to signpost me to other health checks I needed to consider, whilst completing acupuncture treatment to improve the presenting condition.

Whilst I was sceptical beforehand, I was encouraged by my family to give acupuncture a go to relieve the considerable pain I was experiencing. I was fortunate to identify Sutton Accupuncture as having a positive reputation. That reputation is well founded. Ruth Wallis is a learned, caring, expert practitioner. I particularly liked her wholistic approach in tackling and reducing my aches and pains . My scepticism was swept away and putting my trust in Ruth's practice and professionalism has paid dividends for me. I am now substantially pain free and have no hesitation whatsoever in commending Sutton Accupunture to you.

I cannot recommend Ruth enough! She has been absolutely amazing throughout my treatment. From the very first session, she took the time to really listen, understand my concerns, and tailor each appointment to suit my needs. Her approach is not only incredibly professional but also warm, caring, and genuinely supportive. I’ve noticed such a positive improvement in both my physical and mental wellbeing since starting acupuncture with her. If you’re looking for a practitioner who truly goes above and beyond, look no further , you’re in the best hands!

I reached out to Ruth when I was first diagnosed with a complex autoimmune condition and in a tremendous amount of daily pain. I was genuinely desperate and willing to try anything that might help. I thank my lucky stars that I stumbled upon Ruth, as the difference that her treatment has made on my health is remarkable. Her approach is a holistic one, and in the 18 months I have been visiting her, she has worked wonders on my physical health, pain levels and emotional wellbeing. The treatments offered sit alongside the traditional western medicine offered by my GP and consultant, but I truly believe that - in addition to independently helping with my pain levels and inflammation - the acupuncture has enabled the traditional medication to work most effectively. The treatments offered are adapted at each session to provide the most benefit and impact to her clients. She is patient, kind and understanding, and is happy to tailor her treatment to your needs, whether you need a weekly appointment or an ad hoc session when your condition flares twice a year. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Go with an open mind, and see for yourself the impact she and her treatments are able to have.

I've been a patient of Ruth's for a couple of years now. Her knowledgeable, kind, patient, and professional demeanour has always put me at ease. So much so that our daughter now visits as well. She has become an invaluable part of my well-being, helping me navigate not only physical aches and pains but also the emotional challenges life throws my way. Her treatments have made a significant difference in my life; I’d wholeheartedly recommend her services to anyone.
